The headline stat
Six of eight
Six of my eight deaths this game belong to one hero. That’s 75% — even higher than the concentration in the Lina game that started this blog.
Viper found me at 17:06, 18:01, 35:50, 42:13, 43:59, and 46:43. Omniknight took the other two, at 7:41 and 26:36. The numbers behind it aren’t a mystery: SMURFF’s Viper finished 22/3/13 with 536 GPM, the best individual line in the match by a wide margin.
17:06–37:04
Trading back, twice
Unlike some of the nemesis games on this blog, I wasn’t just absorbing it. Ten seconds after Viper killed me at 17:06, I killed him right back at 17:16. And at 35:50 I traded with the fight itself rather than the same hero — Viper got me, and one second later I killed Omniknight in the same exchange, then Ogre Magi about a minute after that at 37:04. The kills were there. Viper’s just landed more of them, and on higher-value targets.
the shape of it
Slark claimed First Blood at 5:01 on our Marci, and Marci finished with the worst deaths total in the match at seventeen. Between Marci’s seventeen and my six-to-one-hero, this was a game where two specific matchups did almost all the damage to Radiant’s scoreline.
26:48–47:54
The map, after the twenty-minute mark
The early game was genuinely even — Radiant and Dire traded their first tier-one towers within ten minutes of each other, and Radiant even retook one at 24:47. From 26:48 onward, though, it stopped being close: Dire took 24 of the match’s 26 total structures, finishing with the fort at 47:54. Dire also never gave up Roshan once they took it, securing it uncontested at 39:48.
Four kills is a perfectly fine number. It just isn’t enough when one hero on the other team is having a career night at your specific expense.
